Weekly Summary June 15 - June 21

6/15/2009 - 6/21/2009: 64.9km 5:58:16 (178 days)

Happy Summer

Well the week started off great, and had a disasterous end. After last weeks high I was back at it, feeling strong through Mon-Wed. At the end of my morning trail run Wednesday, I had a strange pain/stiffness in the bottom of my left heel. Hmmmm. Walking was difficult, but I figured a little stretching and ice and all would be good. Thursday, still hurting headed out for my run and it was worse. No flexibility in the ankle and pain every push off with the toe. I had a chiro appointment Thursday. and he thought it was my Peroneal Tendon, which almost made sense. As the last few days have unfolded I no longer think it is the Peroneal Tendon as both side of the heel hurts. I have no idea what is going on and walking is painful, running way worse.

Sunday, Father's Day, Graham and I ran the Do-It-For-Dad 5km race in Ottawa. It is an annual race raising funds for Prostate Cancer. This was Graham's first 5km race, where we ran the whole distance. It was hard for both of us, for different reasons, but we had a blast (27:51).

David,

Are you sure it's not your achilles? Not sure where you are having the most pain, but I did have something that did sound a little similar once and that's what it turned out to be. Right at the attachment to the calcaneus on both sides.

- for me, ice, heel lifts, rehab exercises seemed to help. Icing your heel in a bucket of ice water seemed to be very effective.

-The other thing you may want to look into is Bioflex laser therapy (don't try other lasers as they aren't as good). Here is a link to a place in Ottawahttp://patients.meditech-bioflex.com/bioflex-clinic-listings.php?country=Canada&province=ON+&city=Ottawa .

I can't tell you how effective it is and how many injuries I've bounced back from in a fraction of the time.

Good luck!

Congrats to Graham too! Very cool

It actually does feel like the Achilles attachment, Derrick. My concern is more that nothing has made it feel any better. Icing has be next to useless. I may try the bucket of Ice water tonight after my "20' jog".
I'll see what my noon appointment shows and then maybe go for the laser, thanks for the link, I have been wanting to give it a try.
Keep you posted.

Thanks for the Congrats for Graham. He had a great time even though he won't admit it. Right after we crossed the finish line he said "I hate you, Happy Father's Day" :). I was guessing we'd run it in 30', he did really well, and actually kept a fairly even pace. He swears it is his last 5km race (till next year, I told him).

That's so funny! Only a 5k could bring out such sentiments! ;)

Just back from Chiro/ART/Graston and he too thinks it is Peroneal Tendon and the Tibialis Anterior Tendon. So 1/2 an hour of ART & Graston, feel quite beat up. Better? Maybe. Will see tonight. Achilles seemed fine, no PF or Stress fracture.

I feel so terrible for you my love! I know how frustrating it is for you and I wish I could do something to help you. I'm so happy that you were able to do the 5k with Graham and I'm very proud of him!
Can't wait 'til you're running happily again....soon.
Love YOU xoxox

NO improvement at all. I followed Derrick's link and have a 4:00pm appointment at a new physiotherapist, who uses the Bioflex laser system. We shall see where that trail leads.
Did get my 20' last night and 20' this morning, so streak is still intact.
35' elliptical at lunch - better than nothing. gotta work off the peanut M&M's and PB Cups.
Thanks all.
